28 Jul 2010 - Graham Hebden Memorial Trophy - Bridlington Town 1 Scarborough Town 3

Town's young team, having had two gloriously successful seasons, took the field for one last time at Queensgate and gained a well-deserved victory against the champions of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

The first half began with few chances, with Josh Greening curling an effort wide and a good Brid move ending with a mis-kick in front of goal.  Ex-Boro keeper Mark Wilberforce made a great save from Luke Jenkinson, but Town skipper Georgie Rose had to make a superb tackle to end a home attack.  The best move so far came when Mark Barber hit the ball wide to Wayne Brooksby who cut in and brought another good save from Wilberforce.  Carl Cook made a courageous block, and then Rob Clark got his body behind a long-range Brid effort as the play swung from end to end.

Town took the lead on 41 minutes when Luke Jenkinson timed his run to break through the home defence and take the ball around Wilberforce before putting it into the bottom corner.  Wilberforce then snatched the ball away from the feet of Robbie Hawkes, and a bad foul on Brooksby was totally ignored by the referee and was a portent of what was to come in the second half.

The second period began with a Bridlington equaliser on 46 minutes, Craig Hogg's long-range effort skidding into the bottom corner, but this was a signal for Town to step up a gear and take control of the match.  A trademark short corner was worked to Nathan Cook whose piledriver was blocked, then a Josh Greening centre just evaded the onrushing Jenkinson.  After more great work from Greening, Matty Brown hit an effort just over the bar.

On 72 minutes Town went back in front, a storming run from Nathan Cook being ended by a foul in the box and Cook got to his feet to convert the penalty.  Tackles began to get fiercer, with Brooksby and Greening the victims of bad fouls and one or two of the home players beginning to lose their composure.  Greening  did well on the right wing before pulling the ball back across the penalty area but the ball evaded all the Town players.

On 83 minutes Brid skipper Tom Fleming was sent off for one of the highest, latest tackles seen in many a year.  Town then constructed a superb passing move, with Hawkes and Brooksby setting up a shooting chance for Nathan Cook whose effort clipped the goalpost.  Town rounded the game off in fine style after 89 minutes, a short corner being played to Wayne Brooksby who took aim and curled the ball superbly into the top corner to clinch a 3-1 win for Town.

24 July 2010 - Pre-season friendly - Marske United 2 Scarborough Town 2

Honours were even in hot and sunny conditions at the G.E.R. Stadium after an entertaining game finished two apiece.  Town, playing their first pre-season game, looked a little rusty at first but soon settled into the game.  Marske were playing their fourth friendly and played some tidy and confident football.

Town had the first chance when Wayne Brooksby sent Nathan Cook away to draw a good low save from the home keeper, but his opposite number Rob Clark had to be alert to pluck the ball to safety from a well-rehearsed Marske free-kick.  Brooksby had a long-range effort comfortable saved, and the same player drilled the ball over the bar when sent clear by a powerful Nathan Cook header.  Clark blotted his copybook when he came out to collect a cross but spilled the ball, leaving Adam Gell to put Marske ahead after 37 minutes.

In the second half Josh Greening had a first-time shot saved and was then foiled by the goalkeeper's feet, but Carl Cook and Neil Waterfield needed to be on top form as Marske mounted a good spell of pressure.  Joe Danby's close-range shot was deflected over the bar by the keeper, and Greening crossed along the six-yard line with Luke Jenkinson just unable to keep the ball on target at the far post.  Clark then made a great block from point-blank range, but was beaten by a long shot from Gell which bounced away off the bar.

Matty Brown took advantage of hesitant defending but his shot was blocked by the keeper at the near post, then a Nathan Cook 25-yarder dipped just over the bar.  Town gained a well-deserved equaliser on 78 minutes when Jenkinson worked his way into the box and was brought down to allow Nathan Cook to score from the spot.  Within four minutes Town went ahead, Robbie Hawkes smacking in a crisp 25-yarder.  However in added time, a scramble in the Town area was seized upon by Danny Brunskill to slam the ball into the net and level the scores.

Town:  Clark, Rose, Ramm, Waterfield, C Cook, N Cook, Patterson, Logan, Brooksby, Greening, Hawkes, Brown, Jenkinson, Danby
