1 Sep 2010 - Mitch on the move to Pickering

Mitch Cook, who left Scarborough Town after the pre-season game at Bridlington, has been appointed manager of Pickering Town in the Northern Counties East League.  Everyone at Scarborough wishes Mitch all the best for the coming season.

August 2010 update

Town's late attempt to revert to the Teesside League was unsuccessful, therefore the team will not compete in a league this season.  However the club has certainly not disbanded; we fervently believe that the town should boast a team composed of local players at a suitable level of the non-league system.  We intend therefore to continue with social and fundraising activities and will apply for membership of a league at Step 7 or above for 2011-12.  There are a number of possibilities here, but this will depend to a large extent on the facilities we will have available to us (pitch, floodlights, etc) at the determination date of 31st March 2011.

We are holding a Sportsmen's Dinner at North Cliff Golf Club on Saturday 2nd October at 7.30 pm, £30 per ticket, or £270 for table of ten.  The Prediction Competition will recommence in September (£1 per week entry, to forecast six football results - £50 weekly prize).  In due course, there will be a Race Night (possibly in November) and a Christmas Draw.  A One Hundred Club will be started soon, and there will be a "Fantasy League" on the website www.nonleague matters.net   Please contact us if you require further details of any of these activities.

30 Jul 2010 - Under-19 side under threat

Because of uncertainty concerning the immediate future of Scarborough Town FC, their Under-19 team is in danger of being expelled from the Northern Under-19 Alliance.   This is because each Under-19 team needs to be attached to a senior team which will be competing in a recognised league for 2010-11, and Scarborough Town is not currently in a position to fulfil this requirement.   Scarborough Athletic have kindly offered to affiliate the team under their FA registration number and we wait to see whether this will be acceptable to the league.  Scarborough Town will of course continue to provide the finances and everything necessary to run the Under-19 team.

27 Jul 2010 - Bridlington Town 1 Scarborough Town 3

Town's young team, playing together for the last time after a splendid two-year winning spell, signed off with a flourish by beating NCEL Premier Division champions Bridlington Town 3-1 to lift the Graham Hebden Menorial Trophy.  Luke Jenkinson, Nathan Cook (penalty) and Wayne Brooksby were on target for Town.

24 Jul 2010 - Marske United 2 Scarborough Town 2

Town were denied by an injury-time equaliser in a friendly at Marske.  Nathan Cook (penalty) and Robbie Hawkes were Town's scorers.

20 Jul 2010 - End of the Road for Town

Scarborough Town Football Club faces extinction despite two successive championship-winning seasons.

Scarborough Town will not meet the Wednesday deadline imposed by the Northern Counties East League because of delays in the approval of planning permission at George Pindar Community Sports College. Scarborough Borough Council is unable to grant planning permission at this time because of objections from Sport England.  Sport England is, in its own words and somewhat ironically -  "the government agency responsible for building the foundations of sporting success, by creating a world-leading community sport system of clubs, coaches, facilities and volunteers."

Having had to resign from the Wearside League in order to take promotion to the Northern League, but then having been redirected to the Northern Counties East League by decision of the Football Association, Town are now without a league in which to compete.

 17 Jul 2010

The Northern Counties East League has issued the following statement:

"Scarborough Town was admitted to the League on a provisional basis at last month's AGM.
"The provisional membership was subject to the club receiving planning permission from Scarborough Town Council for floodlights, hard-standing and covered accommodation at its current ground.
"To date, no such planning approval has been received and the offer of membership will be withdrawn on Wednesday 21st July, 2010, unless written planning approval is received from Scarborough Town Council for all the requirements and the club are able to do the specific work within the required timeframe should planning permission be received."

Scarborough Town Football Club remains confident that the planning issues will be resolved before the League's deadline.

Three different planning applications, dating back as far as June 2009, were submitted to Scarborough Borough Council by George Pindar Community Sports College.  Various amendments and improvements were suggested by the Council or by Sport England, and these were adopted by the architect acting on behalf of the College.  The latest two planning applications, submitted in April 2010 and in May 2010 have been through all the necessary consultations; the dates stated by the Council as being their "Target Determination Dates" have now passed and a decision is overdue.

Further meetings  between George Pindar Community Sports College, Sport England, Scarborough Borough Council and Scarborough Town are scheduled in the next few days.

14 Jul 2010 - admission prices for 2010-11

Scarborough Town have announced admission prices for the coming season.  The Adult price is £3, and the Concession price is £2.  Under-16s will continue to benefit from free admission.  Season tickets will be available soon (details on this website in due course) at £45 Adult, £30 Concession.  Town's matchday programme "Talk of the Town" has increased to 40 pages but will remain priced at £1.

3 Jul 2010 - fixtures released

Town will begin life in the Northern Counties East League with a visit to Shirebrook Town, near Mansfield, on Saturday 7th August.  There will be away games at Appleby Frodingham and Rossington Main before Town play their first home game of the season against AFC Emley on Saturday 28th August

23 Jun 2010 - Third pre-season game announced

In addition to the friendlies at Bridlington Town and Knaresborough Town, the club will play at Marske United of the SkillTraining Northern League.  This game takes place on Saturday 24th July with a 3pm kick off.

22 Jun 2010 - Football Association move the goalposts.

Scarborough Town have been told by the Football Association that they will not be able to enter an Under-18 team in the FA Youth Cup next season.  This is due to a new rule which apparently states that youth teams can only be entered by a club which has participated in the FA Cup, FA Vase or FA Trophy in the previous season.

This rule is so new that it does not even appear on the FA's own website, where the rules of the FA Youth Cup state that "Participation in the Competition shall be open to all Clubs taking part in a recognized Youth League/Academy or suitable Competition in the current season".

The Town youngsters had a good run in the competition in 2009-10, beating Bedlington Terriers and Prudhoe Town before going down 3-1 in a local derby at York City watched by a crowd of 393.

As Town's senior team is unable to take part in the 2010-11 FA Vase due to ground improvements not having been in place by the FA deadline, it seems that this new rule will prevent the youngsters from entering the FA Youth Cup for the next TWO seasons.

13 Jun 2010 - Town to play friendly at Knaresborough

Town have announced that they will play a pre-season friendly at Knaresborough Town of the West Yorkshire League Premier Division.  The game is on Saturday 31st July and kicks off at 3 pm.

12 Jun 2010 - Town accepted into Northern Counties East League

At the AGM of the Koolsport Northern Counties East League, four new teams were admitted: Farsley AFC into the Premier Division, and Handsworth, Louth Town and Scarborough Town into Division One.

The draw for the League Cup was also made, with Town at home to Appleby Frodingham in the First Round.  The winners of this tie will be at home to Hemsworth MW or Brodsworth Welfare in the following round.

1 Jun 2010 - Pre-season friendly announced

Town will be away to Bridlington Town in a friendly match on Wednesday 28th July.  Bridlington Town are current champions of the Northern Counties East League.  The game at Queensgate kicks off at 7.45pm.

24 May 2010 - Into Northern Counties East League???

By winning the Wearside League championship, Town are now entitled to promotion to Step Six of the Non-League Pyramid.  It was hoped that the club could enter the second division of the Northern League, for which the Wearside League is a "feeder league" and to which the previous Scarborough Football Club had many connections. However the FA Leagues Committee has decided that Town should, "for geographical reasons", be allocated a place in the Northern Counties East first division.  This place is subject to various ground improvement criteria, chiefly the provision of floodlighting - for which a planning application has been submitted to Scarborough Borough Council.

21 May 2010 - Presentation Evening

Scarborough Town's immensely-successful season - champions of the Wearside League, winners of the Sunderland Shippowners Cup and champions of the Northern Under-19 Alliance (East) - was followed by the club's Presentation Evening at Scarborough Cricket Club on Friday 21st May.  The Player of the Year award, as voted by fans at recent Town games, was Carl Cook who played an influential role all season at the heart of Town's defence.

13 Feb 2010 - Jarrow game postponed.

Jarrow have called off the Shipowners Cup tie against Town due to an unplayable pitch.  This is the game which should have been held at Scarborough during the harsh wintry conditions of last month, then the venue was reversed on Jarrow's appeal to the league - so this latest postponement (when the pitch at Pindar is in fact perfectly playable) is something of an embarrassment for them.

29 Jan 2010

Town have been ordered to play their Shipowners Cup game on 13th February AT JARROW rather than at home.  The game was postponed on 19th December and again on 16th January, therefore Jarrow appealed for the switch of venue after a precedent set last season when a tie between East Durham and New Marske was twice postponed.  However, during the period 12th December to 16th January there was only ONE SINGLE GAME played on ANY Wearside League ground due to the extreme weather conditions in the entire area, therefore Town may feel somewhat aggrieved at this decision..

After every match over the course of the season, each team picks its opponents' best player, and these votes are totalled at the end of the campaign. The winner was Whinney Banks' free-scoring Danny Lockwood whose 47-goal haul was truly outstanding (although his 180 minutes against Scarborough Town didn't produce a single goal!). Wayne's second place is a remarkable achievement for a 19-year-old. Congratulations, Wayne!

20 May 2009 - End-of-season review proves popular

Town's review of the 2008-09 season, "The Boys are Back in Town", has been a great hit with the fans. 2 May 2009 - Town 12, Redcar Rugby Club 0

Town stormed to the Teesside League Division Two championship with a stunning 12-0 win over in-form Redcar Rugby Club in front of over 200 spectators at Pindar Leisure Centre.

26 Apr 2009 - Under-19s win League Cup

Town's youngsters won the Northern Under-19 Alliance League Cup by beating Yorkshire Amateur 3-2 at Liversedge. This gives them the "double" having wrapped up their divisional title during the previous week with a 2-1 victory over Pickering Town.

25 Apr 2009 - Whinney Banks 0 Town 2

Goals from Neil Thomas and Josh Greening brought a 2-0 win at third-placed Whinney Banks and makes the league title 99 per cent certain. The only way Town can be overtaken is if they lose their final game (at home to Redcar Rugby Club) whilst South Bank beat fourth-placed Coulby Newham 18-0. So Town are 99.9 per cent - but not 100 per cent - certain to be crowned champions in their debut season...

18 Apr 2009 - Town stay on track for title win

Late goals from Joe Danby and Robbie Hawkes brought Town a 3-1 win over Teesside Athletic at Pindar Leisure Centre. The visitors had equalised early in the second half having gone behind to a first-half strike from Neil Thomas.

Coulby Newham and Whinney Banks both drew their games, but South Bank underlined their title challenge with a 10-0 win over Grangetown YCC. However, Town know that just one win from their final two games will earn them the championship.

11 Apr 2009 - South Bank miss chance to draw level

With Town out of action, South Bank St Peters had the chance to draw level on points with Town in the league table. However, the league's in-form team Whinney Banks (six straight wins) defeated South Bank 3-2 to make the final furlong a three-horse race. With three games to go, Town need a further six points to win the Teesside League Division Two title, irrespective of other teams' results. Town's remaining games are: 18 Apr Teesside Athletic (home), 25 Apr Whinney Banks (away) and 2 May Redcar Rugby Club (home).

UNDER-19s TITLE TARGET - If the Town Under-19 team can beat Goole on Tuesday evening (14th April at Mill Lane, PIckering, k.o.7.45pm), they will need only a draw against Pickering Town the following week (Monday 20th April, 7.45pm) to clinch the Northern Alliance title.

1 Apr 2009 - Youth Team news

Our opponents in the League Cup Final on Sunday 26th April will be Yorkshire Amateur, who defeated Thackley 3-1 in the semi-final. The Ammers aren't having a particularly impressive season in the Northern Under-19 Alliance, with 11 points from 11 games in Division West. The League Cup Final takes place at the Clayborn Ground, Liversedge, and kicks off at 2.30 pm.

Meanwhile Pickering Town continue to match the Boro lads at the top of Division East, a 2-0 win at Pontefract Collieries bringing them back on level points. Both teams have three games to play, but our goal difference is +31 and Pickering's is +14. Looks like the Scarborough v Pickering game on Monday 20th April could be the title decider!

28 Mar 2009 - Town thrash Grangetown YCC 7-0

Town make it 19 league games unbeaten, but South Bank keep up the pressure with a 5-0 win over Billingham Kader.

25 Mar 2009 - Under-19 fixtures

The Final of the Northern Under-19 Alliance League Cup, between Scarborough and either Thackley or Yorkshire Amateur, will take place towards the end of April at a neutral venue to be announced.

21 Mar 2009 - Town draw a blank

For the first time in their short history, Scarborough Town failed to hit the net as they drew 0-0 with Norton & Stockton Ancients. Town remain at the top of the table, but South Bank's win today brings them to three points behind Town with a game in hand (but a vastly inferior goal difference)

16 Mar 2009 - League applications for 2009-10

Scarborough Town have made applications to join either the Wearside League or the Northern Counties East League. Matters will be decided in June when both Leagues hold their AGMs.

7 Mar 2009 - Unbeaten run continues at Coulby Newham

Coulby Newham maintained their unbeaten home record and Scarborough Town remain unbeaten in the league as the sides drew 1-1. Liam Gildea scored the Town goal.

28 Feb 2009 - Town 3 Acklam Steelworks o

With Liam Gildea making his debut, Town finally came out on top after Acklam had competed well throughout the game. A Josh Greening penalty (60 mins), Darren Clough (76) and Joel Ramm (85) brought about the 3-0 final score.

21 Feb 2009 - Town maintain their place at the top with a 3-1 win at Billingham Kader.

Town remain seven points clear of South Bank St Peter's after both sides claimed three points today. Josh Greening netted twice from the penalty spot as Town worked hard to claim a 3-1 win at Billingham Kader. South Bank beat Acklam Steelworks 3-2 and third-placed Whinney Banks beat Coulby Newham 3-2.

Town currently head the group, from which the top two teams progress to the semi final stage.

30 Oct 2008 Billingham Town are "team of the month."

The Teesside League Division Two “team of the month” award for October has been given to Billingham Town. This is a results-based award which also includes all Cup results. Billingham, South Bank and Scarborough were all therefore judged as having won three and lost one in October, with Billingham clinching the award on goal difference after a big win in a minor Cup competition. Town’s only defeat was the narrow 2-1 exit from the North Riding Senior Cup at the hands of Grangetown Boys Club, a Teesside League Division One side whose manager was quoted afterwards as saying “Scarborough Town are as good a side as we have faced all season” – and Grangetown are currently in second place in the top division. He also added that he looked forward very much to playing Town next season in the First Division. 22 Apr 2008 - Press Release

George Pindar Community Sports College is very pleased to announce that they will be launching an academy senior team. An application has been made for this team to take part in the Teesside League. The purpose of the team is to provide a stepping stone to senior football for former under-19 players from the academy and community. The team will be made up of these players alongside a few senior players who will operate as player-coaches. This new side will be called Scarborough Town and will play at the McCain Sports field in its first year. It is intended that players from this team will continue to benefit from the coaching of the academy under the leadership of Mitch Cook and will be enabled to move on to play for a range of appropriate teams in the football pyramid, including Scarborough Athletic. The new team has not been established as a rival to Athletic and indeed there will continue to be a close working relationship between Sheffield United, Scarborough Athletic, George Pindar Community Sports College and Scarborough Town. All parties are committed to promoting football in the town and the academy’s function is to provide a route for young footballers to achieve their footballing potential. This could be by playing for Sheffield United but also by representing Pickering Town, York City, Whitby Town, Bridlington Town or Scarborough Athletic.

Sheffield United are now trustees of George Pindar Community Sports College and provide huge support for the College’s footballing activities.

Scarborough Town will be run by an organising committee that will be chaired by Hugh Bellamy with Sean Hunter as secretary. The committee will play a significant fund raising role as well as overseeing the organisation of match days and the day to day running of the team. It is sincerely hoped by all involved that the new team will prove a valuable and positive addition to the footballing landscape of the Scarborough area.
