Scarborough Academy u15/16 8, Halifax Town u15/16 0
Steve Marsden's side put on an outstanding display away at Halifax Town. Hus Ackdag (York) headed the opening two goals for Scarborough, both coming from two well-delivered Bani Monoyiou (York) corners. Pindar School's Danny Glendinning then showed his class, scoring a hat-trick in the space of 20 minutes to put Boro well in control. Luke Foster, also of Pindar, finished well to make the scoreline 6-0 at halftime. Halifax Town refused to give in and made the academy side defend for long periods of the second half. Scarborough's backline of Harry Holden (Pindar), Joe Eblet(Filey), Hus Ackdag(York) and Curtis Foreman (Pindar) all performed excellently throughout to prevent the home side from scoring. Eddie Cass (Ryedale) scored Boro's seventh goal with a quality 30-yard strike after linking up well with midfield partner Tom Lloyd (Malton). Luke Foster rounded off the scoring for Boro when Aidan Thomas's quality back-post cross allowed him to get his second of the game. Coach Marsden added: ' I was delighted how the boys remained disciplined and professional after being 6-0 up at half time. They continued to do everything the correct way throughout and should all be proud of how they performed. ' Scarborough u14 2, Halifax u14 2 Boro had to field a weakened team with six players missing, and began the match slowly. Halifax were having plenty of possesion without creating too many clear-cut chances as the back line of the impressive Will Spencer (Malton) and Bobby Scarborough (Graham) were keeping the Halifax strikers at bay. Keeper Kyle Scaife ( Filey) had to be alert on a few occasions when the Halifax forwards broke clear. Strikers Shane Holt (Scalby) and Brett Crowe (Norton) worked hard trying to create opportunities without much luck for their efforts! After a half time talking-to, Boro began to get into the game as midfielder Tommy Wilson (Filey) started to influence the game. His through ball caused confusion in the Halifax back line and as the ball travelled back towards the keeper he and a defender got in each other's way giving Jordan Shaw (Raincliffe) the chance to roll the ball into the open net. More chances were starting to arrive and the impressive Shane Holt nearly doubled Boro's lead with a long-range effort which was cleared of the line. Holt then played in strike partner Crowe with a perfectly weighted ball and he made no mistake with a great finish from 18 yards out. Halifax then got back into the game against the run of play with a good finish of their own to keep everone on their toes and in the final 10 mins got a equaliser after a lack of concentration from the midfield and defenders! Coach Mark Barber said he was pleased with the overall performance of his players despite a number of players missing. He added the boys started slowly and then deservedly went two in front but was disappointed that the players switched off and let Halifax back into the game. However he singled out Bobby Scarborough and Shane Holt for two impressive performances and added that both players worked hard and didn't stop running for the full game, they both gave everything they had.
