Scarborough Town FC newsletter - issue 23 - 28th February 2010 After yet another blank weekend caused by the weather, Town have reached the end of February having played only two games in each of the past three months! The two February games were a convincing 5-0 home win over Boldon CA in the League Cup and a 2-0 league win over a very talented and hard-working Windscale outfit. With the postponed fixtures piling up, Town will play four league games in March but will then have no fewer than 13 league games to play in the final six weeks of the season - in addition to at least one Cup game (but possibly three additional Cup games if Town's winning run continues). A total of 17 games in six weeks would certainly be a tall order. The league table now shows Town in second place, ten points behind leaders Ryhope CW but with three games in hand. It will be a difficult task to close such a wide gap, but Ryhope still have to travel to Scarborough before the end of the season. Teesside Athletic and Cleator Moor Celtic are also still in contention for league honours, so Town will need to remain in good form if they are to finish in one of the top two places which permit promotion to the Northern League. Next Saturday (6th March) sees Cleator Moor Celtic visit Pindar Leisure Centre for a vital league game. The Quarter Final tie against Jarrow in the Shipowners Charity Cup was postponed for the fourth time and has been re-arranged for Saturday 13th March (at Jarrow, kick off 2pm). The winners of this tie will be away to New Marske in the Semi Final. Meanwhile in the Wearside League Cup, by a strange coincidence, Jarrow and New Marske will be battling it out in the Quarter Final on Saturday 6th March to see who progresses to a home tie with Scarborough Town in the Semi Final of that competition. The Under-19 side have also been hit by a string of postponements and need to fit in seven league games and one or more Cup games before the end of the season. The much-postponed League Cup tie at Pickering Town will take place on Monday 15th March (7.45 kick off). Town's fixture problems are of course exacerbated by the fact that six players in the first team squad are also members of the Under-19 side. Don't forget, if you need a copy of Steve Adamson's excellent new book "No Battle, No Victory" - which features the history of Scarborough Football Club from 1998 to 2007 and the subsequent foundation of the two new Scarborough clubs - it costs £11.95 and is on sale at Town's home games.
